I distinctly remember sitting with friends one afternoon my junior year of high school. The group chatted about their future plans.
"I think i will get a job down at the tire place." One of the boys told the group.
My brow furrowed, "I thought you wanted to be a mechanical engineer?"
"I did. But, college isn't for kids like us."
I felt my heart stop. Was he telling me I couldn't achieve something?
college WASN'T FOR KID LIKE ME?! nO WAY! i WOULDN'T ACCEPT THAT.
Nowadays, i AM PROUD OF MY COLLEGE DEGREE. AND AS A TEACHER, i WON'T LET MY STUDENTS ACCEPT THAT EITHER?
Has THERE EVER BEEN A TIME WHERE SOMEONE TOLD YOU Couldn't ACHIEVE SOMETHING? How did it make you feel? What did you do about it?
