Welcome to Spring Fling Kidlit Contest!

Spring Fling Rules
1. Your story should be geared towards kids ages 12 or under.

2. Choose a gif to inspire your story. be sure to share where you found your wonder gif. (The website or if you created it yourself!)

3. All gifs should be child appropriate and in no way be derogatory towards any faith, race, etc.

4. Now for the dreaded word count! You have 150 words. That’s it! No more but less is always welcome.
(Your title is not included in the word count.)

5. No illustration notes pretty please.

6. Your gif should be the only visual with your story.

7. The Spring Fling contest officially begins on Wednesday April 1st and closes April 3rd, post your gif and story on your blog.

(if you don't have a blog, no worries, you can put your whole story in the form below. if you want others to read it too, feel free to post your story in the comment with the link to your gif.)

8. Then, add the link to your blog to the form on the Entries page of this website.

9. Deadline for posting your story or the link to your story is April 3rd at 11:59pm CST.

10. Only one entry per contestant is permitted.

Hugs can be warm and wonderful...

But sometimes you don't want a hug.

It's okay to say "I don't want a hug today."

Kisses can say “I love you!”...

But sometimes you don't want a kiss.

It's okay to say "I don't want a kiss today."

You might want to get a hug later… or tomorrow… or not at all.

You might want to get a kiss later…or tomorrow…or not at all.

And that's okay.

You may want to give someone a hug or a kiss but they might not want it then.

And that’s okay. You can keep it for later.

You are you.

Your body is yours.

Can I give you a big hug and a kiss?

If you say no, that’s okay.

I’ll love you always.

It's spring, but no joy can be felt
by my snowman. Once fat, he's now svelte.
With each passing day
he is shrinking away.
It pains me to watch the guy melt!

I know, of course, that he's not real.
My snowman can't think and can't feel.
And yet to my mind
it's a cinch you will find
he's been given a very raw deal.

I built him. I'm sort of his mom!
I molded his shape with my palm.
But spring is so warm,
all that's left of his form
is a picture on snowman dot com.

Matzo
By Denise Seidman WC= 150 words

Ernesto never understood why Nola named her dog Matzo.

“Why'd you name him that?”

“He’s brown, beige and tan like matzah."

“”What’s matzah?”

“It’s like a cracker. It’s eaten instead of bread on Passover.”

“Why can’t you eat bread?”

“Passover celebrates when the pharaoh freed the Hebrew slaves and they were afraid he'd change his mind so they had to leave in a hurry.There wasn’t enough time for the dough to rise before baking.”

“Can I try some?”

Nola passed the matzah to Ernesto but Matzo jumped. The matzah flew from Ernesto's hand and
dropped.

SNATCH! Matzo caught it midair. He begged for more.

Nola smiled, "He loves matzah but he can’t eat too much or he'll get sick."

"Now, I get it, Matzo loves matzah. It's him. I’m going to name my dog Taco. That's what he tries to eat."

Matzo barked his approval. Nola and Ernesto laughed.
